What has working with brains, voice, and infrastructure technologies taught us about open science?

Abstract: Our research portfolio comprises projects focusing on the neural basis and translational applications of spoken communication, precision psychiatry and medicine, and preserving information for reproducible research. Using examples of our work, I will explore how these projects have guided our thinking on issues around data availability and reuse, technology and infrastructure development, and community building. While many technological advancements have transformed our group’s research approaches and questions, our community interactions indicate a large gap in current neuroscience education. To counter this deficit, we have been working on a set of collaborative initiatives to create resources that support the entire life cycle of experimental research and promote the importance of making scientific research “open by design”.
Bio: Satrajit Ghosh is a Principal Research Scientist at the McGovern Institute for Brain Research at MIT and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at Harvard Medical School. He is also the Director of Data Models and Integration project of ReproNim, an NIH P41 Center for Reproducible Neuroimaging Computation and co-PI of a new BRAIN Initiative archive for cellular neurophysiology. His research interests span computer science and neuroimaging, specifically in the areas of applied machine learning, software engineering, and applications of neuroimaging.Event Details on Ludmer Centre
